Talbot Village Trust has supported Alderney Manor Community Association with a donation of £62,000 to remodel the community centre in Poole.
An extension to a community room has been created at the centre thanks to the Trust’s grant which funded the extension. The expanded space now allows up to 400 people from different local community groups to use the centre every day. Investment has also been made in the centre’s facilities with the installation of a new kitchen, which as a result has boosted profits, which are reinvested back into the community.
Mike Holland-Porter, community centre chairman, said: “I wanted to expand the centre as I could see how this would better serve our local residents for years to come. We initially began fundraising but it would have taken us years to meet the target we required to carry out this project. Thanks to the kind donation from Talbot Village Trust, we have now made that dream possible and are extremely grateful to the Trustees.”
Russell Lucas-Rowe, Trustee of Talbot Village Trust, added: “We understand how important community centres are to local residents, they not only act as a meeting place, but also encourage socialising and learning. Most community centres are a hub of activity and are heavily relied on by a wide range of ages in the area.
“We are pleased to have provided our support to the centre and can already see the new opportunities which are available to the members of the public due to the extension.”
Talbot Village Trust meets biannually, and is accepting applications for funding from both previous and new applicants in the area before the Trustees meet in autumn of this year. Please go to www.talbotvillagetrust.org for more information.
