Talbot Village Trust has provided Dorset Community Foundation (DCF) with a grant of £5,000 towards the publication of a report researching local needs and issues.

The analysis report titled ‘Hidden Dorset’ has enabled the charity to delve into the county’s issues including poverty, education, wellbeing, mental health and loneliness. Through this report, DCF aims to offer solutions to these issues and a proposed way forward. This includes championing community groups and charities in Dorset which address the issues highlighted in the report, but are struggling for funding sources.

DCF is one of 46 Community Foundations across the country and helps people and organisations to invest in their local community, where it is most needed and will make the most impact. The ‘Hidden Dorset’ report has created an action plan which will work towards overcoming the issues outlined, with the support of the rest of the community.

Jon Yates, Chief Executive of Dorset Community Foundation, explained: “The grant from Talbot Village Trust along with support from our other sponsors, enabled us to produce the second edition of our ‘Hidden Dorset’ report highlighting local needs. The report revealed that we live in a county of contrasts and many local residents, living side by side, are having very different experiences. This valuable information allows us to focus on targeted grant making and raising donations from local people to address these local issues. A lot of our grant making complements projects supported by the Talbot Village Trust and I’m very pleased that the grant towards the ‘Hidden Dorset’ report has allowed us to work even more strategically.”

Sir Christopher Lees, Chairman of Talbot Village Trust, added: “There is a natural synergy between the Trust and DCF due to the fact that we both provide grants to those that require our help in the county. We are really happy to have presented the foundation with the necessary funds to produce their latest ‘Hidden Dorset’ report which will now enable us to target the problems highlighted in their findings together.”

Talbot Village Trust meets biannually, and will be accepting applications for funding from both previous and new applicants in the area before the Trustees meet in spring of this year. Please go to www.talbotvillagetrust.org for more information.
