Eight-year-old Nevaeh from Derby, winner of Crayola and Jet2holidays’, “draw your dream holiday” competition, got the surprise of a lifetime when she saw her dream holiday brought to life on Bournemouth Pier, thanks to renowned 3D artist Joe Hill of 3D Joe & Max.
This summer, Crayola and Jet2holidays asked the UK’s young minds to let their imagination take flight and draw the holiday of their dreams. And they delivered – from chocolate horizons to ice-cream fountains and trips into space, judges were blown away by the creativity and joy in every entry.
As the winner, Nevaeh had the exciting opportunity to see her design brought to life as a large-scale, 3D interactive art installation on Bournemouth Pier, where it could be enjoyed by the public. The prize also included a £1,000 voucher to go towards a family holiday, along with a suitcase full of Crayola goodies.
At the centre of her design is a towering rainbow slide with two thrilling routes – one plunging into a pool of bubbles and foam, the other into a giant ball pit. Visitors climb winding stairs to the top, past a waterfall tank where they can snorkel with dolphins, turtles, and tropical fish. Below, a transparent water tunnel for visitors to canoe while gazing at the magical underwater world. At the peak of the rainbow, a group of unicorns awaits petting from guests queuing for their next ride.
A Crayola spokesperson said: “This competition has been a joyful reminder of how limitless children’s creativity really is. Nevaeh’s artwork captured our hearts and took our imaginations on a trip we never wanted to end. Judges were amazed by the detail, originality and big holiday energy packed onto the page. At Crayola, we believe creativity should be encouraged and celebrated every day, and what better way to do that than in real life.”
Nevaeh, said: “I was so happy when I found out I’d won – I couldn’t believe it!”. “I love drawing, so just being part of the competition was exciting, but seeing my picture come to life as a huge 3D artwork was amazing. It’s been so much fun and such a special experience – definitely the best day ever!”
“It was a real joy to bring Nevaeh’s creative vision to life,” said Joe Hill, the 3D artist behind the installation. “Her design was bursting with imagination, colour, and positivity – everything you want in a piece of public art. Watching her reaction as she saw it transformed into a full-scale, interactive experience on Bournemouth Pier was incredibly rewarding. It’s been a fantastic project to be part of.”
To keep the creativity going, families can enjoy £65 off a Jet2holiday with every Crayola product purchased this summer.
