Dogs Trust’s Newbury Rehoming Centre has received a £500 donation from David Wilson Homes, which will go towards caring for the dogs they look after with the aim of finding them forever homes.
Originally founded in 1891 under the name of National Canine Defence League, Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and and normally cares for around 14,000 dogs across its network of 20 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin – the charity has a non-destruction policy and will never put a healthy dog to sleep.
As well as rehoming, Dogs Trust also focuses its efforts on understanding dogs and sharing that knowledge with the wider public to prevent problem behaviours that can result in relinquishment or abandonment. Dogs Trust is working towards the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction.
The £500 donation from David Wilson Homes is part of the housebuilder’s Community Fund scheme, which is designed to support charities throughout the year.
The contribution will go towards helping to the charity to ‘change the tale’ for both the dogs in their care and dog owners who have been impacted by the pandemic.
Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “During a challenging time for many people, the efforts of Dogs Trust have been admirable and we’re delighted to support its work with a £500 donation as part of our Community Fund scheme.
“The charity has dedicated itself to providing comfort and care to our canine friends and they should be very proud of everything they’ve achieved so far.”
As the last year has been extremely challenging, it has highlighted to many people how special having a dog in their life is as they spent more time with their pets than they normally would. With the help of David Wilson Homes and the public, the charity hopes to minimise the impact on dogs who have been there when they’ve been needed most.
