Guide Dogs helps people imagine what iconic landmarks across the UK look like when you’re losing you sight
Guide Dogs – the charity which supports people with sight loss – has released a series of striking images which illustrate what life is really like for those with serious eye conditions. Not only can day-to-day tasks become much more difficult but some of the UK’s most famous landmarks can become almost unrecognisable.
Around six million people across the UK are living with sight-threatening eye conditions. However, it can be hard for those who don’t suffer from vision impairment to imagine what the world is like for those who do. In order to best illustrate how a visually impaired person might experience sight loss, Guide Dogs has reimagined some of the UK’s most iconic places to show how drastically different they appear to people with certain eye conditions.
The places depicted in the image series include South West icons Stonehenge in Wiltshire and the Roman Baths in Bath. Each landmark is replicated several times to show what someone with good eyesight would see compared to someone with various eye conditions.
Peter Osborne, Director of Operations at Guide Dogs, said: “For people without an eye condition, it can be very difficult to imagine what it’s like for those of us with vision impairment. We created this series of images to help sighted people visualise how someone with sight loss might experience the world.”
Osborne continued: “It’s important to remember that some eye conditions can be prevented so looking after your eyes, and getting regular check-ups, is vital in preventing and treating potential issues.”
As well as its renowned guide dog partnerships, Guide Dogs can help people with sight loss at every step of their journey through information and advice; family support; sighted guides; life skills support and more.
