A care home in Donnington has received a ‘tea-rrific’ donation from leading developer David Wilson Homes after it arranged for some baked goods to be delivered, following British Food Fortnight (18th September to 3rd October).

The 64 members of staff and residents at Donnington Care Home were treated to the donation as a gift from the developer to help them look forward to sharing events together again following a challenging time during the pandemic.

In a bid to further support the community and help local businesses, the range of scones, cakes and miniature sausage rolls were provided by Empire Café in Newbury.

The sweet treats were enjoyed at the care home by all residents and staff with plenty of laughter and conversation.

Roseann Sweeney (Home Manager) at Donnington Care Home, said: “This was such a kind gesture and the staff and residents had a musical afternoon tea which was enjoyed by all. We would like to thank David Wilson Homes and Empire Café for their bakery donation.”

This year marked the 20th year of the national celebration of the diverse and delicious food that Britain produces, encouraging people to discover the health benefits and pleasures of eating quality, fresh, seasonal and regionally distinct produce.

David Wilson Homes, which is building in the community at its Donnington Heights development, was keen to help the local care home enjoy the best that British food has to offer.

Rob Allen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Supporting the communities in and around the areas we build is extremely important to us and as it has been such a challenging time of late, we wanted to support Donnington Care Home however we could.

“By providing some afternoon tea items to residents and staff, it’s our way of giving back to those who have been affected by the pandemic and help them to look forward to a brighter future.”

The homebuilder’s latest Berkshire community, located on The Connection, will accommodate 222 properties and house hunters are being encouraged to secure their appointment to get first pick of the homes available.

Donnington Heights is a brand new community which comprises three, four and five bedroom properties. As well as supporting the community through donations such as this, the development will bring significant investment to the area by contributing over £6.8 million via David Wilson Homes’ planning agreement.
