Could this year’s Euros leave a rift in Brits relationships? A recent survey by leading pub retailer and brewer, Greene King, has found that one in four people living in the South West would happily cancel plans with their other half in favour of watching a game of football.
With the Euros finally getting underway, pubs up and down the nation are set to enjoy having their customers back watching sport, with an impressive quarter of people who have or would put plans on hold with their nearest and dearest to ensure they get the best seat in the house, with their favourite tipple in hand when watching their home nation in action.
What’s more, the survey found nearly a third of those questioned admitted that they either have or would be willing to missing their partners BIRTHDAY to watch their beloved team in a final.
With an obvious nationwide love for the game, some have taken it further with nearly a third owning up to missing an anniversary or planned holiday and shockingly nearly a quarter have or would missed the birth of their OWN CHILD or their OWN WEDDING all in the name of cheering on their favourite team!
Sometimes it’s work that can get in the way but a select few have thought around that with the survey revealing; almost one in four have taken a laptop to the pub to work whilst watching football or would do this. Almost a quarter have or would called in sick to watch football and over a fifth have or would called in sick the next day after celebrating too hard after a win.
Chris Conchie, head of sport at Greene King, said: “We love the commitment Brits have to watching the game! If you can’t be at the stadium then there’s nowhere better to watch than at the pub! Let’s kick off the summer in style!”
All Greene King venues are operating a table-only service during the Euros tournament up until planned easing of restrictions on 21 June (subject to Government announcements). This is to continue to comply with Covid regulations to ensure all customers are kept safe. This is also inline with its PUBSAFE promise. For further details, visit: www.greeneking.co.uk/pub-safe/.
